Anthropic abruptly shut down access to its newly launched Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models on Friday night following a U.S. Commerce Department directive imposing export restrictions.
The company stated that disabling the models for all customers was the only way to ensure immediate compliance. The Trump administration reportedly acted on concerns about a jailbreak that could bypass safeguards related to cybersecurity, chemistry, and biology, and requested a pause to strengthen national security defenses.
Access to other Anthropic models remains unaffected.
