Anthropic Halts Planned Token-Based Billing for Claude Agent SDK

Anthropic paused a billing change that would have significantly raised costs for heavy users of its Claude Agent SDK, including those using third-party apps, just before it was set to take effect. The plan, announced on May 13, would have treated SDK usage separately from standard Claude subscriptions, charging API rates instead of applying the more generous usage caps from existing plans. With the pause, users can continue drawing from their subscription's existing limits, which analysis shows can offer far more value than paying API fees alone.
