Anthropic introduces hardware standard to give AI agents control over physical devices

Anthropic has unveiled a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a set of standardized drivers designed to let AI agents interface with and control a wide range of physical devices. The goal is to simplify scientific experimentation by providing a common interface and data format, potentially cutting setup time from weeks or months to hours or minutes.

The project was inspired by a neuroscientist's custom system for coordinating complex lab equipment at HHMI Janelia. Anthropic suggests the approach could eventually enable AI to run scientific experiments across many fields.
