A new study reveals that communities are increasingly successfully blocking data center construction projects. Since the beginning of 2023, protestors have blocked or delayed at least 75 data center projects worth over $130 billion, marking a record-breaking period.
This resistance stems from communities mastering opposition strategies, increasing regulatory uncertainty through legislative sessions, and the emergence of more than double the number of active opposition groups across the US. These actions present a structural shift in the landscape for data center development.
