Federal judge rules Trump administration's ban on Anthropic unlawful

A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration illegally blacklisted Anthropic, the maker of Claude AI, by designating it a national security supply-chain risk. Judge Rita Lin of the US District Court for the Northern District of California found the action was unlawful retaliation violating the First Amendment.

The government acted after Anthropic refused to remove restrictions on using its technology for lethal autonomous warfare and mass surveillance of Americans. The court vacated the directives and granted key parts of Anthropic's summary judgment motion.
