Viral videos from the World Humanoid Robot Games show sprinting robots beating Usain Bolt’s 100-meter record, but also crashing into barriers, falling over, and even catching fire. The second edition of the event, held in Beijing from August 22–26, featured races, kung fu, kickboxing, soccer, and table tennis, alongside practical tasks like laundry.
Robots lagged behind human working speeds in those chores, highlighting their limitations. Organizers, including Chinese state media and the Beijing city government, aim to showcase humanoid robots’ commercial potential as China’s robotics industry accelerates.
