Humanoid Robots Set Sprint Records but Crash and Catch Fire at Beijing Competition

Viral footage from the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing shows sprinting robots beating Usain Bolt's 100-meter record, only to crash into barriers, fall, break apart, and even catch fire. The second annual event, held August 22–26, also featured robots performing kung fu, kickboxing, soccer, table tennis, and dance.

In more practical tests like washing and hanging laundry, the robots lagged well behind human speeds. Organizers, including Chinese state media and the Beijing city government, aim to highlight the commercial potential of humanoid robots as China's robotics sector expands rapidly.
