Meta Experiments With Robots in Data Centers to Handle Routine Tasks

Meta is testing robots to perform tasks such as plugging in cables, resetting servers, and power-cycling equipment in its data centers, according to current and former workers. The previously unreported effort involves hardware from Watney Robotics, Kinova, and ABB.

One experiment uses a Kinova Gen3 robotic arm to cut electricity to servers, while another robot is being evaluated for swapping networking cables. A Meta data center worker estimated the technology could replace up to 80 percent of some people’s workloads, adding: "It’s coming for us all, unfortunately."
