Meta resets AI strategy with new open-weight models and Zuckerberg manifesto

Meta announced a renewed push for open-weight large language models, releasing the open model Muse Glimmer and pledging to open the weights for its more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 within weeks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also published a lengthy essay outlining Meta's AI philosophy and governance approach, positioning it against proprietary rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Those companies have lobbied the US government to counter Chinese labs' use of distillation and open-weight models. Meta's latest moves mark another attempt to reboot its struggling AI strategy.
