In a world-first medical experiment, humanoid robots teleoperated by surgeons successfully removed gallbladders from live pigs during a minimally invasive procedure. The trial, published in Nature, demonstrated that humanoid robots can be controlled remotely, offering a cheaper and more compact alternative to specialized surgical robots.
According to Dr. Shanglei Liu of UC San Diego, this technology could enable robotic-assisted surgery in rural hospitals, on battlefields, or even in space.
