The US military used explosive-laden drone boats in combat for the first time, striking an Iranian midget submarine and naval port. The attack occurred on July 12 at Iran's Bandar Abbas Naval Base, where three one-way attack surface drones exploded after approaching their targets.
US Central Command confirmed this was the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations. The drone boats made a low-speed, uncontested approach, targeting a Ghadir-class midget submarine that was suspended from a gantry out of the water.
